What are they? Uncontrolled blazes fueled by weather, wind, and dry underbrush, wildfires can burn acres of land and consume everything in their paths in mere minutes.

Causes of Wildfires Human beings are the numer one causes of wildfires. Many of these wildfires are caused by cigarette butts being left on the land, campfires that have been left unmonitored, as well as intentional acts of arson.

Causes of Wildfires Lightning can cause wildfires, especially the type of lightning called ”hot lightning”, which can last for a relatively long time. When it strikes, it can produce a spark which can set off a forest or a field.

Effects of wildfires Wildfires take away homes, wildlife, as well as vegetation. People often lose their houses as well if the fires are close enough to human housing. Vegetation is now obsolete if this area is near a farm or near the food of other inhabitants.

Effects of wildfires The soil in the area of the wildfire has been completely destroyed. The soils in the forest are made with decaying nutrients and debris that have a lot of natural ingredients, but when a wildfire hits this soil it becomes too hot and all of those nutrients are gone for good.

What we should do If we discover a forest fire?
Alert the fire service – dial emergency number 110 Start extinguishing the fire, if possible Spread out fire fighting efforts along the flanks of the fire Make sure to keep watch and ensure adequate post- extinguishing BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL AND NEVER TAKE CHANCES! DO NOT REMAIN IN LOCATIONS WHERE THERE IS A RISK THAT FLAMES COULD SURROUND YOU.
