2 Activities Interim outcomes Impact
Outdoor education camps for young people Lakeside YMCA provides state of the art outdoor education residential and day camps for schools and youth groups, set amongst 400 acres of pristine woodland. Service users can choose from over 50 different activities both on land and water. As a social enterprise, all profits are reinvested back into the centre for current and future beneficiaries. Increased comfort in taking risks and trying new things Young people develop their full potential, belong, contribute and thrive in their local communities Better prepared for employment Increased belief in oneself and optimism for the future Improved educational attainment Increased aspirations and motivation Improved attitude towards learning Increased confidence and self-esteem Increased resilience Tailored programmes to specific youth needs We accommodate a wide range of youth groups with differing needs, and tailor residentials to align with other youth support services: Schools supporting students with improved resilience and character development National Youth Schemes such as the National Citizen Service and the Prince’s Trust Cohorts of young people requiring specific support such as young offenders, alternative education, Special Education Needs, young carers, substance misuse, or young people at the end of their life. Improved ability to cope with change Improved life chances Increased self-awareness Improved sense of agency Improved independence Experiential learning for young people Immersive, holistic and experiential learning is central to Lakeside’s approach to outdoor education. Programmes are designed to allow young people to take on new responsibilities and experiences, take risks within a controlled environment, and reflect on their learnings throughout. Improved behaviour Developed and/or improved life skills – communication, leadership, team work Exceptional staff focused on learning outcomes Lakeside’s fully-trained staff are experts in pedagogy and outdoor learning. Alongside working with young people, staff: deliver training for National Governing Bodies support volunteers to learn skills and achieve new qualifications run Professional Development programmes for organisations, including transition support for apprentices and recent graduates Young people make friends and collaborate with peers and adults from different backgrounds Strong, sustainable communities Increased appreciation of the value of nature Reducing barriers for disadvantaged young people Lakeside’s bursary fund allows local, disadvantaged young people to benefit from using the centre. Improved health and wellbeing Increased likelihood of participation in outdoor activities
