2. “Quotations” Quotation Marks: The “Pairs”
Goals: enclose quotations/short titles
Commas & Periods always go INSIDE quotation marks.
Quotations are NOT used in plays or for well-known proverbs.
Dialogue:
Need new paragraph for each change in speaker.
No quotation marks for indirect quotes.

4. “Quotations” Short Works:
Articles, chapters, short stories, essays, songs, poems
Exceptions: books of the Bible, report titles for class
Single Quotation Marks: Used INSIDE double quotes.
Caroline asked, “May we sing ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ on our way to Chick-fil-a?”

5. “Quotations” Reminders: Commas/periods=INSIDE quotation marks
Colons/semicolons=OUTSIDE quotation marks
Question marks/exclamation marks=generally INSIDE quotation marks
No extra period needed if the sentence ends with ? or !
