The NHSGGC Single System Induction Framework
Introduce yourself and the learning & Education Service Explain that this brief session is purely intended as a brief introduction to the single system induction process for NHSGGC, and reiterate that everyone’s induction needs to be individually tailored with their manager or mentor so that it meets their specific needs.
2
Session Objectives To give you the opportunity to:
Review the induction process See the Induction ‘portal’ Think about your induction pathway May link to your KSF Outline: Core 2: Personal & People Development We’re going to briefly talk about the different components of the induction process, and then take a whistle stop tour through the induction portal within Staffnet, which is NHSGGC’s intranet site, and you should then be in a position to discuss with your manager or mentor what your individualised induction pathway might be. Ask how many have heard of the NHS Knowledge & Skills Framework – brief explanation of how it links to the induction process and their ongoing development into their post.

Induction Components Corporate Professional Induction Local
Talk through the main components of the induction process: Corporate; including Corporate Welcome, Mandatory & Statutory Local; including Ward/Department orientation, Directorate orientation, and competency based preceptorship programme Profession Specific; including programmes such as today, Moving & Handling and, for Registered nurses, the NHS Scotland Flying Start programme Local

Induction Checklist Generic checklist available via induction portal
Not exhaustive – needs to be individualised Key elements included with suggested priorities and chronology Suggested timescale for completion – months Take responsibility for your learning Requires sign off by you and your manager Ask how many staff have already been issued with a checklist by their manager or mentor Talk through the slide: Explain that you will show them where to access the checklist in a moment Advise that local and professional items still need to be added All of the corporate elements are listed, including the mandatory and statutory courses, with a suggested time scale. For example, the Fire Safety must be completed on day 1. Although the corporate and local elements should be completed within three months, some of the profession specific elements might take longer. For example, some of the competency based programmes might take up to a year. Reinforce the KSF link here – evidence from your induction will significantly contribute to your foundation development review within 12 months. Although you will be supported through your induction by your manager and/or mentor, you need to take ownership for your learning. For example, you can forge ahead with much of the mandatory courses, many of which are available through eLearning. Once your induction is complete, the checklist will be signed by you and your manager/mentor, and retained in your personal file. You might want to keep a copy for your portfolio.
