6 Virginia Western Community College Dual Enrollment
Why would you want to take a dual enrollment course? Opportunity to earn college credit Extra weight towards your grade point average (GPA) Courses Available for 9th graders Economics and Personal Finance MS Office Applications Computer Aided Drafting and Technical Drawing Requirements – Must pass VPT – English and Math Take dual enrollment very seriously! Explain advantages versus disadvantages of dual enrollment Explain VWCC enrollment process – apply online, take Virginia Placement Test A student must earn a grade of “C” or better to transfer to a four year university.

7 Requirements for the Class of 2022
Standard Diploma Students pass an industry certification test Both diplomas Students must complete one virtual course Economics & Finance (even the face to face course) satisfies this requirement Virtual Courses that are available for rising 9th graders are: Earth Science, Pre-AP Earth Science, Economics and Personal Finance, Geometry, Algebra II. Students completing the required RCPS Economics and Personal Finance face to face (which includes an online component) will satisfy the online requirement also.

The registration guide gives details about every class offered here at Hidden Valley as well as other important information about your education such as graduation requirements.

Burton Center for Arts & Technology Engineering, Mass Communications, Performing Arts, Visual Arts If you are interested in a BCAT program, be sure to tell your counselor during your registration appointment. Applications are available on-line Burton will visit HVMS to meet with interested students. Governor’s School for Science & Technology (page 9) Applications available at Governor’s School Informational Meetings ONLY In addition to regular electives, there are also a number of a specialty programs students can enroll in such as the Burton Center for Arts & Technology, the Regional Governor’s School, & the Virginia Western Regional Academy for Advanced Technology. Students interested in attending Burton or the Virginia Western Academy should tell their counselor during their registration appointment. All Burton blocks will be during the regular school day & school bus transportation to BCAT will be provided. Students interested in attending the Regional Governor’s School should attend the informational meetings to get an application. The dates for meetings are posted on the Counseling webpage. 24

An Important Message from Administration about Electives At any time, administration reserves the right to drop an elective choice and add in a mandatory remediation period if we believe extra support will benefit your academic success at Hidden Valley High School.

29 Course Request Changes
If you would like to make changes to your course request after your registration appointment, you must complete the COURSE REQUEST CHANGE FORM, have it signed by your parent, & returned to your MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELOR by February 14, 2018. The form will be available in counseling offices and on the counseling webpage.

30 2018 – 2019 Schedule Changes Schedule changes for 2018 – 2019 school year will be considered as follows: Failure of a course that is a prerequisite for a scheduled course or a graduation requirement Human or computer error Grouping adjustments and/or balancing of class sizes Recommendations of the child study committee or IEP committee

31 Teacher Recommendations
Procedure: Your middle school teachers make recommendations based on your performance in classes. HVHS Counselors support teacher recommendations. You will need to sign up for the level they recommend (or below) or parents complete a waiver requesting a higher level. Waivers available in counseling offices

32 Registration Appointments with your high school counselor
When: January 11, 17 & 18 Schedule will be posted in English classes How Long: 10 minutes How to Prepare: View Registration Guide, make 6 elective choices, make list of questions Schedules changes will be limited next year
