Technology Standards NETS also becoming a part of NCATE for accrediting teacher preparation programs Most states using NETS for strategic planning as well as teacher standards NETS typically become a part of “accomplished practices” for states

NCLB Act requires that students be technology literate by grade 9 States are incorporating technology standards for certification/licensure No specific requirement for national certification yet – but technology supports requirements for multiple means of teaching

NCATE requires that colleges train on instruction, assessment, and professional productivity using technology In-service teachers often have technology requirements for annual evaluations

States, districts, and education associations promote activities that provide continuous improvement in technology skills Online training also available for free or fee

Media specialists - often charged with managing and training for technology Administrators - use and make decisions about technology Other educational specialists - offer guidance and instructional support in use of technology for administration and student achievement

Expanding Your Technology Literacy
NCLB legislation assures technical literacy for teachers beyond basics Teachers must keep expanding knowledge and skills to keep up with current and emerging technology Educators must be lifelong learners to remain on the technological forefront
