Do now (5 minutes): (take the notes!!!) A metallic silver cube has a mass of: 38.0 g And a volume of 5.0 cm3. calculate its density? (hint: use ESRT page 1 ) identify the mineral? (hint: use ESRT page 16)

Density is like the “thickness” of a substance.

Mass (the amount of matter an object is made of) is measured on a triple beam balance. In grams, kilograms.. What is Volume? The amount of space an object takes up Unit – cm³ (for solids) or mL (for liquids) {note: 1cm³ = 1mL}

1. Pressure: as pressure increases, density increases. (Direct relationship)

When measuring, we are not always exact
When measuring, we are not always exact. To see how far off our measurements are we use the percent deviation formula found on the cover of our ESRTs.
