Occurs when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, blocking the sunlight from reaching Earth (during a New Moon).

4. Lunar Eclipses
Lunar eclipse – occurs when Earth is directly between the moon and the sun. Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon (at a Full Moon).

Total Eclipse- happens when the moon or Earth blocks all of the light from the sun.
Umbra- darkest part of the shadow.
Penumbra- largest part of shadow.

7. Tides Tech Term Tides- the rise and fall of water every 12.5 hours.
Tide occur mainly because of the differences in how much the moon’s gravity pulls on different parts of Earth
