1 Watch phases of the moon
Expectations: D2.1, D2.5, D3.5 Watch phases of the moon

2 The Moon Earth’s natural satellite.
rotation = revolution which is why we only see one side of the moon The moon is held in orbit by the gravitational force the same as the planets around the sun.

3 Moon Facts No atmosphere,  very hot or cold depending on the position with the Sun. Gravity is 1/6 of Earth’s. ¼ earth’s diameter The moon is illuminated by the Sun. The light or dark always moves right to left. Why do we see phases of the moon??

13 Tides Tides due to the Moon’s gravitational pull on Earth
As Earth is pulled toward the Moon, a bulge of water also forms on both sides of Earth (high tide), other sides will be low tide. two high and low tides each day with 6 hours between them The Sun also affects tides but not as much, when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned it causes spring tides (high tides), when perpendicular- neap tides (weaker)

14 Tides

15 Eclipses Occur when the position on one celestial object blocks or darkens the view of another celestial object. Two types solar eclipse lunar eclipse

16 Solar Eclipse

17 Lunar Eclipse The Moon passes through Earth’s shadow.
It may be viewed anywhere on Earth when the Moon is visible.
