It’s good to see you! I’m glad you’re with us in Fourth Grade Sunday School today! PLAY Greet SAY I am James, your computer teacher for this morning. PLAY Explain SLIDE 3=SAY Today we’ll study one of the Bible people who showed us how important it is to honor Jesus. To begin the narration, move the cursor over the title. NOTE: This is the version of the Presentation Narrator written specifically for Microsoft PowerPoint 97.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 80,50 PLAY LookUpRight SAY This took place in the city of {Beth-ehni=Bethany}, just over the hill known as the Mount of Olives from Jerusalem, about a mile and a half away.. PLAY GestureUp SAY This is what {Beth-ehni=Bethany} looks like today. PLAY Explain SLIDE 4=SAY It was the night before Palm Sunday when Jesus came to {Beth-ehni=Bethany} for a special dinner.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 10,20 PLAY LookLeft SAY {Beth-ehni=Bethany} was the home town of Mary and Martha, the sisters of Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead some time earlier. PLAY RestPose SAY Do you remember when Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, listening to his teaching, while Martha was busy trying to prepare a meal for Jesus and his disciples? PLAY Explain SAY Our story today is about Mary and Martha, but especially about Mary. PLAY Read SAY This story is found in the Gospel of John, chapter 12, verses 1 through 12. PLAY ReadReturn SLIDE 5=SAY And now, we begin today’s story.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 60,30 PLAY Acknowledge PLAY GestureRight SAY Jesus had raised Mary’s brother Lazarus from death! Her sister Martha and she were so grateful. They and some other friends in {Beth-ehni=Bethany} prepared a banquet PLAY Explain SAY They wanted to express their love and thankfulness to their friend Jesus. PLAY Blink SAY The dinner was to be at Simon’s house. Martha was to serve the meal. PLAY Alert SAY And Jesus and his twelve apostles were invited! PLAY DoMagic1 SLIDE 6=SAY Six days before Passover, Jesus arrived in {Beth-ehny=Bethany}. They were excited about the dinner they prepared for Jesus. And Mary was especially excited about the special gift she had to honor Jesus.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 80,40 PLAY LookUpRight SLIDE 7=SAY As the men reclined around the banquet table, Mary brought out her gift. It was a pint of perfumed oil.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 20,50 PLAY GestureLeft SAY The oil was made from the nard plant. Here is a drawing of a nard plant in bloom. PLAY Explain SAY Nard grows in the Himalaya mountains, and was imported into {Pal-es-tine=Palestine}. It was very expensive. PLAY Pleased SLIDE 8=SAY But because Jesus was so valuable and so important, Mary wanted to honor him in the best way she could.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 80,60 PLAY LookRight SAY Mary took the costly oil and poured every bit of it on Jesus. Then she unbound her long hair and she wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair. PLAY Pleased SLIDE 9=SAY Simon’s house was filled with the wonderful smell of the perfume.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 60,30 PLAY Explain SAY A respectable Jewish woman did not usually unbind her hair in public. To attend to a guest’s \emp\ feet was usually the job of a servant. PLAY Pleased SLIDE 10=SAY But Mary wanted to honor Jesus with a gesture of reverence and devotion.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 60,50 PLAY Sad SAY But Judas, the apostle who later betrayed Jesus, was not interested in honoring Jesus. In fact, Judas was angry! PLAY Decline SAY Why wasn’t this perfume sold, and the money given to the poor? It was worth what a man would make working for a whole year! PLAY Explain SLIDE 11=SAY We later learn that Judas did not really care about poor people. Actually, he was a thief. He sometimes helped himself to the money which belonged to all the apostles.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 5,60 PLAY LookLeft SAY But Jesus felt honored by the gift. He said to Judas, Leave Mary alone! PLAY Explain SLIDE 12=SAY Poor people will always live near you. You can help them at any time. But you will not always have me. Mary had prepared my body for burial.

^*#{}#*^ MOVE 40,30 PLAY DoMagic1 SAY Mary wanted to honor Jesus with a special gift. PLAY Explain SAY Like Jesus’ friends at {Beth-ehni=Bethany}, we can recognize Jesus’ value today, and honor him with our thoughts, our actions, and our attitudes. PLAY Pleased SAY The best way to honor Jesus is to place our faith in him. PLAY RestPose SAY Thanks, boys and girls, for listening to this story from the Bible. It was good to be with you today. PLAY Wave SAY See you soon! HIDE
