How did the Industrial Revolution change life?
In the 1800’s, people were now able to earn higher wages in factories than on farms More money, more…???? Job seekers flocked to cities People lived in rural areas, but thanks to the factory system, population shifted to cities Factories were built in clusters by entrepreneurs Where were factories being built? And why were factories being built close together?

Living Conditions England’s cities grew rapidly so this meant no development plans, sanitation codes, or building codes Roads had no drains and garbage was left all over streets Dirty shelters with families living in one room What would this lead to a spread of?

Working Conditions Factory owners kept machines running as many hours as they possibly could This would lead to an increase in production It also led to 14 hours a day, 6 days a week for workers Working conditions were also very dangerous Seldom well lit Machines injured workers No government program to provide aid in case of work site injury Coal miners life span shorter than any other worker

New money belong to factory owners, merchants, shippers (working class) Middle class transformed social structure in England Prior to Industrial Revolution, landowners and aristocrats held power After the Industrial Revolution, middle class took power politically and socially

Positive Effects of the Industrial Revolution
Economically, it created jobs Technological progress and invention Increased production and standard of living The need for engineers, clerical and professional workers, expanded educational opportunities Labor unions increased wages, shortened hours, and improved working conditions
