Unit at a Glance Physical Fitness/Nutrition – Unit 1 Fitness Logs – Explanation/Expectations VA SOL 9.3 Students will be responsible for tracking physical activity during Health class. Students will apply their knowledge of the FITT principle to complete activity logs. Logs will be worth one test grade. 2. Benefits of Physical Activity - VA SOL 9.2 Students will learn the positive effects of physical activity. Students will describe the negative aspects of a sedentary Lifestyles. 3. 5 Elements of Fitness - VA SOL 9.3 Students will be able to list and describe the 5 elements and apply them to a fitness program(Cardiorespiratory Endurance, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, Body Composition). Students will be able to distinguish which activities fall under which element of fitness. 4. Planning and Implementing a Fitness Program VA SOL 9.3 Students will be able to list, describe, and be able to apply the principles of a Fitness. Students will be able to delineate the difference between Aerobic and Anaerobic Activity. Students will be able to list the Components of a Workout and apply those to their individual activities. Students will be able to Measure Resting and Target Heart Ranges. 5. Nutrition – VA SOL 9.1 Students will identify health related decisions and identify the risk factors for chronic diseases. Students will be able to recognize signs and symptoms of eating disorders and the relationship to body image. Students will be able to identify the 6 nutrients and their roles in nutrition. Topics and Targets Assessments Students will be given daily classwork and formative assessments to reinforce learning and monitor progress. Presentations will be given by groups as well as individuals on specific topics. Fitness logs will be done every health unit. A Unit Test will be given upon completion of the instructional targets of each unit.
