1 Unit 8 Ideas Daniel Perry

2 Idea 1 – synopsis My idea is based on an episode of Only Fools and Horses. The synopsis of the episode is, Roy Slater, an old rival of Del Boy’s has turned up. He is a police officer, and he is looking for a stolen microwave oven, which Del turns out to be in possession of, which then leads Slater to arrest Del, Grandad and Rodney. The project will take place then has them all in the police station and tries to get them to give up the thief of the microwave oven.

3 Idea 1 – contextualisation
I chose this idea because I thought it would be very interesting how a scene from a classic sitcom could look in the modern times. I also thought it would be a good idea to use different shots certain parts of the scene.

4 Idea 1 – skills In order to complete the project, I would require good skills with audio equipment and managing the quality of the sound because there is a lot of dialogue. I also would require good skills with using different camera angles.

5 Idea 1 – target audience My target audience would be people who like British comedies. The project could also be targeted towards people who like re-enactments, as well as people who like scenes with some mystery to them.

6 Idea 1 – similar Media Products
I have seen a few YouTubers re-enacting certain scenes of the classic sitcom. A scene from the episode Yuppy Love, was re- enacting by a small production called Jesters and Horses.

7 Idea 1 – Sources of Information
Only Fools and Horses is a British sitcom that ran from

8 Idea 1 – experimentation and research design
For the project, I would need to think about and experiment with the different kinds of shots I would want to use and whether or not they work. Since the scene is in an interrogation room, I would to think about what rooms I could use that have enough space for multiple angles. I also need to think about all my possible options for choosing a room, and make sure me using it is guaranteed.

9 Idea 1 – media equipment required
In order to film the project, I would require a tripod in order to film shots steadily, and pan without shaking. A shotgun mic would be required because most of the project takes place in one room. Plus, I intend to film a lot medium long shots, and a few close-ups. I would need a clapperboard in order for me to keep track of what shot is what, as well as know when the audio starts.

10 Idea 2 – synopsis For my second idea, I thought about I scene I really liked in the 1968 film The Odd Couple. The synopsis is Oscar is in his apartment playing poker with his friends Murray, Vinnie, Speedy and Roy. The scene shows the audience that Oscar’s apartment is very messy, low on cash, he owes his wife alimony, and that their friend Felix has split up with his wife, which then leads to them thinking he might kill himself.

11 Idea 2 – contextualisation
I love the scene for how funny it is, and that every character has a different personality and stands out in the scene. The dialogue is also very fast paced, and the characters banter with each other back and forth.

12 Idea 2 – skills I would have to create some mess for the scene in order to make it accurate with the dialogue. There are a lot of refreshments in the scene, so I would have to be sure I have enough of them all, and that they are available when required.

13 Idea 2 – similar media products
I have seen videos on YouTube re-enacting the television series of The Odd Couple, but not the film.

14 Idea 2 – sources of information
The Odd Couple is a film that came out 1968 starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. A sitcom, of the same name, was made from A sequel to the film was released in 1998. A remake of the TV series was then made from

15 Idea 2 – experiment and research design
Research must be found on how where to watch the film for reference.

16 Idea 2 – media equipment required
I require a tripod to film shots without shaking and keep the camera steady. A shotgun mic would be the best choice because the project takes place inside. I would need a clapperboard in order for me to keep track of what shot is what, as well as know when the audio starts.

17 Idea 3 – synopsis My third idea is based on the video game Grand Theft Auto IV. The synopsis is Niko meets up with Patrick and Michael to prepare for a bank heist. When he arrives, he is introduced to Patrick’s brothers Gerry and Derrick, the latter whom comes along for the heist.

18 Idea 3 – contextualisation
I chose this scene because it brings back so many memories for when I first my best friends, because they were the ones who got me into the game.

19 Idea 3 – skills I would need to have tactical filming ideas of where to shoot at certain angles, especially when they are walking. I would also need to find a way give the feel of a bank heist without filming inside a real bank. Another skill I would need is to know how to build up tension for when the gang is running from the police.

20 Idea 3 – target audience People who like, or are familiar with the Grand Theft Auto series. It can also be targeted towards people who like comedic banter between characters, similar to some of Guy Ritchie’s films. Fans of the 1995 film Heat, could also be directed towards it since the game’s heist is based on the film’s.

21 Idea 3 – similar media products
Grand Theft Auto IV is part of a long running video game series: Grand Theft Auto III Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Grand Theft Auto V

22 Idea 3 – sources of information
The game has a heist similar to the one in Heat. Guy Ritchie films like Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels have very similar humour, in terms of heists and character banter.

23 Idea 3 – experimentation and research design
I would need to find suitable locations for filming the heist, since a real bank is out of the question. I would also need to know what locations for filming outside, and how to flow the scenes when walking everyone is walking and running.

24 Idea 3 – media equipment required
I would require a tripod to keep the camera steady when the scenes are still. A dolly would be required for when the characters are walking outside. A shotgun mic would be required for mostly the scenes set inside. A dynamic mic may also be required for certain angles where the shotgun mic cannot stay hidden, or be in a good position. A clapperboard would be required for keeping track of the scenes, and knowing when the audio starts.
