10 5th Grade Preparation Student Planner: Utilized in every class.
A buddy:  Someone we can rely on if we are out of the classroom for any reason (sickness, vacation, band, orchestra, gifted and talented, etc.) Homework and all class materials:  Lockers are not visited throughout the day.  I begin each block with the expectation that students are prepared with assignments to be handed in, and ALL materials needed for the subjects we are working on (AM or PM).

Students work independently and cooperatively to solve this problem Mini Lesson Independent Work/ Small Group Instruction HOT problems/PARCC preparation questions Differentiation Will occur during small group instruction Centers Center activities will be provided for students that are finished with independent work.

13 Grading Breakdown Test & Quizzes – 70% Homework & Classwork – 30%
Test are counted twice Quizzes are counted once Homework & Classwork – 30% Each homework is worth 10 points. 5 points for completed homework. 5 random problems will be graded. Classwork will be graded 1 per week

14 Grades Grading Philosophy Test and Quiz Grades below 70% A = 95 - 100
C = C-        = D = D-   = 60 – 64 F = 59 and below Grading Philosophy Mastery model Test and Quiz Grades below 70% Students will be invited before and after school for extra help sessions. A second test will be administered – a date and time will be assigned. Grades are “Live” and should be checked often!

15 Extra Help Available for extra help Before school – 8:15 to 8:30.
After school – 3:00 to 3:30. Drop-in appointments are acceptable! Suggestion - me before your child comes in for extra help. I can confirm I will be available for extra help. THINK CENTRAL Students will be assigned a Think Central account username and password. This website has many different resources for extra help and challenge problems. My webpage -

What if a student breaks a rule: First Offense: Verbal Warning 2nd Offense: Taking a break and completing a think sheet. 3rd Offense: Recess/Afterschool detention and a phone call home Large offenses or a 4th offense will involve Mrs. Hansen.

17 Student Programs Basic Skills Gifted & Talented Band & Orchestra
Basic skills instruction happens with-in the classroom instructional time through small group interactions with a basic skills teacher. Gifted & Talented Mrs. Viera is in the process of determining the schedule Band & Orchestra Mrs. Zazzalli & Mr. Rodriguez will notify students of their lesson schedule. Students are responsible for making up classwork and assignments they missed when they leave class.
