2. Ordinary time 2019
There are two Ordinary Time seasons. The first begins in the evening after the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord (January 13, 2019) and ends with Ash Wednesday (March 6, 2019).
The second begins the Monday after Pentecost (June 10, 2019) and ends the Saturday before Advent (November 30, 2019).

3. ordinary time’s liturgical color is green.
Ordinary Time is the longest liturgical season, and green plants (used to make green dye) would have been plentiful.
Green represents hope, like the hope we feel when we see new buds in the spring.

4. ordinary time’s symbol
Ordinary Time’s symbol is two fish and a basket of bread.
This symbolizes Jesus’ miracle of multiplying the loaves and fish.

5. Important feast days within ordinary time
Trinity Sunday is the first Sunday after Pentecost. It celebrates the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
The Feast of Christ the King is the Sunday before Advent begins. It leads us into Advent, which is getting us ready for the arrival of Jesus, the newborn king.

Luke 10:25-37: The story of the Good Samaritan
A man is robbed, beaten, and left for dead. His own countrymen see him on the road but refuse to help him. A Samaritan, his enemy, finally comes along and helps him. He takes him to an inn and pays the innkeeper to nurse him back to health.
I chose this reading because it is talking about who our “neighbor” is. To be neighborly, we must reach out to everyone, not just the people we are friends with.

9. Prayer for growth in ordinary time
Lord Jesus, I know that all human relations take time if they are to grow and deepen. This is also true of my relations with You, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, which must grow over the course of my life. However, this growth is not automatic; time alone means nothing unless I add earnest efforts to it. You have inspired Your Church to set aside special times when this growth can develop more intensely - the special seasons of the Church Year. If I fail to move toward You during these times, I waste precious opportunities and endanger my spiritual life. Help me to take them seriously and make a real attempt to use them well, so that I may grow into the person You want me to be. Amen.
