A QUANTITATIVE VARIABLE takes numerical values for which it make sense to do arithmetic operations like adding and averaging. A CATEGORICAL VARIABLE records which of several groups or category an individual belongs to.

INDIVIDUALS – the objects described by a set of data. A VARIABLE is any characteristic of an individual. The DISTRIBUTION of a variable tells us what values the variable takes and how often it takes these values. Ex. Histograms.
