7. The Mediterranean and Balkans
Mussolini invaded British Egypt, but were pushed back by British
German troops joined to rescue its ally
Caused back and forth wins/losses between the two.
Germans finally win.
Hitler takes over Balkan states to prepare for invasion of the Soviet Union.

8. Invasion of the Soviet Union
Hitler surprised Soviets with attacks.
Used the scorched-earth theory until Leningrad was surrounded.
1 million Soviets starved, but the city would not surrender.
Nazis invaded Moscow.
Soviet counter attacked pushed fighting into winter….
500,000 Germans killed with no victory in Moscow.

9. U.S. Involvement
Supplied England and France with weapons, but refused to enter the war themselves.
Dec. 7, 1941 – “A date which will live in infamy”
Japanese attacked U.S. military base in Hawaii – Pearl Harbor
U.S. cut off oil supplies to Japan and aided Chinese resistance
The U.S. now entered the war.
