Gothic Romance Batchelor, Howard. “Gothic Romance.” Grolier Electronic Publishing, 1995. Dark Romantics created characters and put them in fictional scenarios that allowed the authors explore the non rational side of human nature, such as the emotions, imagination, evil and insanity. They were fascinated with remote periods of history (dark ages, renaissance) and exotic places (not urban industrial centers). Plot lines often included violent and mysterious events.
