3. Unweighted Grade Point Average (GPA)
A = 4 B = 3 C=2 D= 1 F = 0
Assign the correct point value to each grade earned
Add up the total and divide by the number of grades
ALL students who wish to participate in school activities (athletics, band, cheer, etc.) must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and no more than one F

4. GPA Weighted vs. Unweighted
Students in an Honors (except H English 10), AP, or IB level course will be awarded an extra grade point for each grade earned with a “C-” or better
Adding in these extra points into the GPA calculation is necessary to determine a weighted GPA

TAG agreements are put in place by working w/ Comm College Counselor. TAG agreement with CSU guarantees acceptance to the CSU system, not campus specific. TAG agreement with UC system is developed to guarantee acceptance to a specific campus, not all campuses have TAG agreements.

Admissions opperates on a sliding scale, the higher your gpa the lower your test score can be and vice versa.
CSU accept a super score for the SAT/ACT = best score reported for each section
CSU do not require the optional writing for either the SAT or ACT

12. Important Considerations for UC Admissions
Complete the 15 UC-required college-preparatory (a-g) courses, with 11 of those done by end of 11th grade
A minimum of 7 “a-g” courses must be completed in the 11th and 12th grade years
Take Honors, AP, or IB coursework when possible
Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better
Take the ACT with writing and/or SAT w/ writing
Subject Tests recommended for some majors (not required)
To be competitive academically your GPA should be 3.5+ and your SAT combined score should be about 1200 or better and your ACT score should be a 26 or better.
Review the UC Admissions website to see a list of Subject tests by school required by specific majors.

15. PSAT (Preliminary SAT)
Administered to all 10th grade students
Only offered in October each year
National Merit Scholarship qualifying test in 11th grade year only
Be sure to link your PSAT score to Khan Academy to get customized free test prep (scores to be released online the week of Dec. 11th)

16. NCAA – Eligibility Center
Required if planning to play Division I or Division II sports in college.

20. What’s next…. Part 2 of 10th Grade Advising
Counselors will be meeting with ALL sophomores in small groups to complete a college and career lesson in Naviance.
Your lesson will be scheduled either December 11th or 13th for those taking English this term. For those taking English in the spring, these lessons will be delivered on February 1st or 2nd.
