Title of Subject: Longwall Headgate Last Reviewed Date: November 2015 SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS The following safe work instructions is NOT INTENDED to replace hands on training requirements of the code of federal regulations. The intent is to provide an overview of known potential safety hazards associated with equipment operation. Hands on training with an experienced operator on each specific model must be conducted. The trainee can not proceed onto production until they are determined ready to proceed by the supervisor of the training. Before any operation or maintenance procedure is performed with or on this equipment, it is important that personnel have a complete understanding of the location and functions of all controls and indicators, as well as, the location and use of all emergency shutdown controls and procedures. Steps for Initial SWI Training: Prepare – Review the SWI. Present – Quick Card at the machine with experienced operator. Tryout – Person runs the machine with supervision. Follow up – Competency points are verified by supervisor and is signed by the trainee/trainer to complete the training. Title: Longwall Headgate SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Workplace Examination: A safe work environment is your first priority. Examine the roof, ribs and walkways. Examine and stay alert to changing conditions. Correct unsafe conditions prior to commencement of any other assigned tasks. If unable to correct an unsafe condition post signs and notify your supervisor immediately. Always practice proper body positioning. Pre-operational Checks: Check communications and make sure face phones are operating properly. Check alignment of tailpiece. Check condition of belt for compliance of dust control plan. Visual examination for CO sensor and methane detector for degasification if/when applicable. Check methane monitor for sensor located on tail of the longwall face. Check cables and hoses located along the stageloader for damage or defects. Verify communications between face phones and headgate. Ensure water sprays are in compliance with the site specific vent control plan. Ensure that pressure is released or cables are de-energized, locked and tagged prior to any repairs. Moving Crawler Tailpiece: Check the area around the stageloader and tailpiece for: Roof and rib conditions Unobstructed walkways and tram path Accumulations of combustible materials Scale loose roof or ribs. Maintain walkways free from obstructions and potential slipping or tripping hazards. Remove combustible materials.

Title: Longwall Headgate SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Tramming the Crawler/Tailpiece: Ensure that no persons are alongside or directly in front of the tailpiece before tramming. Communicate your intentions to move the crawler/tailpiece to anyone in the area. Utilize proper body positioning to keep all personnel out of redzones and pinch points. Removing Monorail/Belt Structure: Prior to removing structure belt drive, booster drive and take up must be de-energized locked and tagged out. When multiple people will be used to remove structure communicate intentions and movements with all involved. Do not remove structure until communications have been received verifying drives and take up have been de-energized locked and tagged out. Utilize proper body positioning and safe lifting techniques when handling materials. Get assistance if needed. When traveling to the tight side another person must remain on the walk side.
