“ Why am I here?” Learning Objective and Success Criteria:
Students will be encouraged to reflect on their current situation. Students will attempt to identify the factors that have led to this situation. Students will analyse how their behaviour/actions affect others. Students will explore how their behaviour/actions potentially could affect their future.
2
There are usually good reasons why people find themselves in particular situations.
Look at the following images. Can you think of the circumstances that might result in the situations shown? Being arrested? Committing a crime?
3
Becoming homeless? Ending up in court?
4
Now, think about yourself.
Becoming rich? Now, think about yourself. Be honest, why are you in this centre at the moment? Make a list of all of the factors which led up to you being in this situation.
5
Think ‘A B C’ A – Activate
What activated or triggered the event or situation? (The trigger may be a feeling or a situation) What was happening just before the incident? How was I feeling? What was I doing? Who was I with? Where was I?
6
B – Belief C – Consequences Your thoughts and/or images.
What was going through your mind at the time? Meanings and interpretations. What did this say or mean to me? What was the worst thing that could have happened? Could I have acted differently? C – Consequences Emotions. Describe how you were feeling when this happened and rate how strong the feeling was (0% - very low, not even on the scale 100% - the strongest the feeling could ever be). Physical Sensations. What did I feel in my body? Behaviours: actions and urges. What did I do? What did I feel like doing?

Now, let’s have a light bulb moment!
Answer these questions honestly. How do you think your behaviour and/or actions are affecting other people? (e.g. Your family? Your teachers? Other students?) How do you think your behaviour and/or actions are making other people feel? How much of other people’s time are you taking up because of your behaviour and/or actions?
9
Do you think you deserve to be in your present situation?
Yes or No? Explain. What could happen to you in the future if your present situation continues?
