2. The Wunderlich Farm and Klein, Texas Museum is located on Theiss Mail Road next to the campus of Doerre Intermediate.

3. Three houses are located on the museum property.
Fourth graders will tour the Peter Wunderlich house.

4. Objectives of the field trip.
Tell the story of the first German settlers to Klein.
Describe what life was like for these settlers.
Identify tools used in the rural Klein community.
Compare and contrast the way of life of the early settlers with the way of life in Klein today.
Appreciate the way of life of the earlier citizens of Klein.

5. Why is the school district named Klein?
Texas became a state in 1845, opening up much land for new settlers.
Life in Germany became difficult in the 1840’s.
Adam Klein and wife Frieda came to U.S. in After going to California for the gold rush of 1849, Adam bought land in northwest Harris County.
Many German families bought land in this area creating farms, churches, schools and businesses.
In 1884 Adam Klein wrote to Washington, D.C., requesting a post office to be established in area. The post office was named after Adam Klein.

6. What is a Museum? A museum is a collection of objects.
A museum displays and exhibits objects.
A museum explains and interprets objects.
A museum preserves objects.

7. Museum Behavior
Because of the antiquity, value, and rarity of some of the museum objects, it is important not to touch them unless specifically directed to by a museum guide.
To prevent breakage and damage, and to stay safe, running is not allowed.
There are quiet times during a field trip—when a guide is talking and especially in the Doerre library.
Bring your historical imagination to the museum!

8. What is a Docent? Farm tours are led by Docents.
Historical docents are volunteers who are trained to conduct guided tours through a museum discussing and giving comments on the exhibits.

11. Students will also see these vocabulary words in the exhibit cases located in the Doerre Library.
Almanac-book giving farmers information about weather, planting days and more.
Confirmation-ceremony after studying the basic truths of Christian faith.
Christening dress-infant dress worn at baptizing or naming ceremony.
Crochet, embroidery, knitting-terms for needle work with thread and needles with hooks.
Conscription- drafted or forced into service with the military. Used in the Civil War.
