Format and Content:
Many sponsors publish guidelines that set out instructions on how to prepare a proposal.
Follow the guidelines
Check for font size and margin limits
Check for page limitations
Check for submission requirements

3. General Components of the Proposal
Cover or title page
Identifies title of the proposed project, name(s) and title(s) of the principal investigator, proposed project period, dollar amount.
Project Summary
A brief description of the proposed project’s objectives. Use “Laypersons” terms.

4. General Components of the Proposal
Detailed program description
The explanation of the project that is being proposed. Often includes an explanation of the objectives and a description of the procedures used to carry out the objectives.
Time Line of proposed project
Description of tasks and time frame of completion of project.

5. General Components of the Proposal
List of personnel
Names and titles of all professional personnel involved in project.
Curriculum vitae/Biographical Sketch
Limit to professional and academic essentials. Include synergistic activities.
List of publications
Include only those relevant or significant to the proposal.

6. General Components of the Proposal
Budget with justifications
Explanation of proposed spending, generally by category.
Will be focus of later discussions.
Concurrent submission
If proposal is being submitted to other sponsors a statement should appear in each proposal indicating that it is a concurrent submission.

List of current or pending support
Indicate the source of support; project title; percent effort; dates of project period; annual costs; and how this project does not overlap or duplicate projects supported by other funds.
Description of current facilities and equipment
Explanation of laboratories, offices and other resources that will be used in the course of the project

Use to document and verify non-institutions cooperation.
