Difficult for Departments to recruit nominees for each College committee
Inequity in Departmental committee participation

Put less burden on each Department to fill committees
Assure that all Departments are participating in COS committees each year
Provide means whereby each Department eventually serves on all 12 COS committees and COS executive committee
Does away with the unpopular election process

3. 12 COS committee assignments are filled in a given cycle. Of these 12
The new plan is based on the size of the faculty of a particular department
12 COS committee assignments are filled in a given cycle. Of these 12
2 will be filled by Biology, Geology, Math, and Chemistry
1 will be filled by each of the other Departments
The Department will be responsible for filling only their assigned committee(s) for that cycle
