University Housing & Residence Life
With our historic buildings, Redbud Lane walking pathway, large turtles sunning by the Texas Pond, impromptu student music, and dance sessions, and bike-friendly atmosphere, our Denton campus is known for its beauty and is one of the safest college campuses in the nation (according to Best Colleges.com). Our student who live on campus feel like a part of the university community - plus, they perform better academically and are more likely to graduate. Living Learning Community Overview
Living Learning Communities (LLC) provide students an opportunity to live and connect with others who share interests, academic and personal goals. Entire floors of students in the same major or College, or with common interest are living and learning together. LLC’s are designed to deliver a variety of events and services to support students in their academic and personal growth through faculty and peer interaction. Learning Community students have a higher grade point average and retention rate than non-LLC residential students.

LLC Overview - Structure
College Based - blocked course enrollment including first-year seminar course (College of Arts & Sciences, Business, Health Sciences, Nursing and Professional Education, Commuter, and Psychology Majors) Interest Based - first-year seminar course combined with collaborative on-campus partnerships (Arts Majors, Civic Engagement, Entrepreneurship, Lead Maroon, Recreation, STEM Majors, and TWU Serves) Second Admit - first-year seminar course combined with required admittance in University program (Honors Scholars, President’s Leadership Council, SUCCESS, and Terry’s Scholars)

LLC Overview - Student Staff Roles
Peer Advisor - live-in student staff, assists with first-year seminar, implements weekly study hours, curriculum program including individual and large scale LLC programming Senior Peer Advisor - same as above in addition holds office hours, mentor Peer Advisor staff, assists LLC Coordinator in programmatic marketing, implementation and logistics Resident Assistant - live-in student staff, assists in student non-academic transition to college, crisis response, open door hours, curriculum program including individual and large scale building wide programming Student Managers - live-in student staff, holds office hours assisting in building and curriculum management in one of three areas: Community Development, Desk Operations and Community Council

LLC Overview - Full-time Staff Roles
Residence Director - live-in full-time staff member, oversees building facilities, supervises Resident Assistants and Student Managers and curriculum management Living Learning Communities Coordinator - live-off full-time staff member, oversees day to day management of LLC program including but not limited to: recruitment (staff and student), marketing, curriculum management, directly supervises Peer Advisor Staff, academic and partnership development, serves on University committees Assistant Director for Residence Education - live-off full-time staff member, oversees design and development of program, curriculum designer, liaison for partnerships (faculty, academic advising and staff), advise RHA, oversees training and onboarding for department

Faculty Involvement Provide support for faculty to enhance learning in and out of the classroom Financially Administratively Recognized at the LLC Awards & Recognition Ceremony annually Encouraged instruction in First-Year Seminar course in college and major specific LLCs Constant contact with faculty to address concern and acknowledge praise observed in the classroom

Marketing & Recruitment
Crafting a new brochure/mailer to showcase entire LLC Program. Revamping LLC social media to get students engage at what is happening on campus. Call campaign in March to get students to sign up for LLCs Pioneer Preview and Accepted Students Day- During Hall Tours, presentation, and during resource fairs. Housing presentation during Orientation.

LLC Development Created in collaboration with Academic Departments in 1996 Blocked courses and first year seminar are core curriculum requirements Continued collaboration with College Deans and Department Chairs to secure seats for LLC students in courses offered First-year seminar course sections specific to LLC college, interest or program Close partnership with Academic Advising and Orientation staff to ensure LLC students are advised and enrolled into the correct courses and sections for their LLC Establishing MOUs and LLC Advisory Council to examine structure of LLCs and continued implementation of program
