11,549,062 tonnes of BMW were landfilled That’s 93% of the BMW landfilled in 2005/6

Headlines …… 10 Authorities landfilled 24,618 tonnes over their allocations and used trading 8 were Unitaries and 2 were WDAs One borrowed from 2007/8

Regional Summary North East – 6 Authorities bought allowances and there was a surplus of 19.8% Both South East and West Midlands had the highest surplus at 26.2 % North West region had the lowest surplus at 14.2 %

Trading for 2006/7 189,664 allowances were traded
Total value of trades was £3,352,244 22 different local authorities traded

Final thoughts… 2005/6 BMW sent to landfill was 12,380,966 tonnes.
By 2009/10 BMW sent to landfill < 11,200,000 tonnes. Landfill Directive targets won’t be met by trading alone
