2 History of T.L. Hanna 1878: first public high school
in Anderson (started by Mrs. Edna Shanklin and Ms. Bettie Moore) Southern Home School 1917: new building built and changed name to Anderson High School. 1st principal=Mr. Thomas Lucas Hanna

3 History of hanna : Split into Boys’ High School and Girls’ High School

4 Boys High School Built because the old Anderson High was overcrowded. Mostly a vocational education McDuffie High but now the extension campus

5 Boy’s High School (Later became McDuffie High; Now the Extension Campus)

6 Girls High School Curriculum: mainly college prep classes (English, math, social sciences) Changed name to Hanna High in Stayed in the former Anderson High building until 1961 In 1961, new building built for Girl’s High (now McCants)

7 Girl’s High School (The original Anderson High School)

8 T.L. Hanna High School In 1962, the boys moved into the Girl’s High School School was renamed T.L. Hanna High School. In 1992, the school moved to its present location. Freshman Academy opened in

9 The First T.L. Hanna High… (1961-1992) …. Now McCants Middle School

11 African American Students
Historically, black students did not attend these schools. Segregation was in effect Reid Street School was grades 1- 12 In 1951, the original Westside High was built for black high- schoolers.

12 Changes In 1970, all schools were integrated.
Students now attend schools based on where they lived, not their race.
