Declaration of Ind. Grievances
Most of the Declaration of Independence is a list of complaints against the King of England. Complete the “Declaration of Independence Grievances” worksheet with a partner!! (Grievance = an official statement of a complaint over something believed to be wrong or unfair)

Discussion for Basket Shots!!
Do these grievances seem to be things that would upset rich people or everyone? Do you think these complains would give people reason to go to war and possibly die? Why or why not?

Work in pairs to answer the graphic organizer: “Why did the Founding Fathers write the Declaration of Independence?” You have 8 minutes. Share back and explain why for a basket shot!!!

In the document, the leaders outlined their reasons for declaring independence from England. Historians have disagreed as to whether the colonial leaders were motivated by selfish or ideological reasons. Bailyn (Historian #1) argues that the Founders were motivated by ideological reasons Zinn (Historian #2) argues that the founders were motivated by selfish reasons (i.e., power, money)
