2 VISUALIZATION GOALS IDENTIFY HYPOTHETICAL CLIENT DATA (USCBP)
CASE SCENARIO UNDERSTANDING THE CLIENT'S VISION CLIENT QUESTIONS CLIENT CRITICAL CONCERNS DATA (USCBP) UNITED STATES CUSTOMS AND BORDER PATROL DATA JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA SOURCE The Three Functions of Visualization Record - Store information Analyze - Support reasoning about information Communicate - Convey information to others

3 CASE SCENARIO Phoenix International
Client: FREIGHT FORWARDER Phoenix International 710 N Tucker Blvd, Saint Louis, MO 63101 Customer invisions a system that will take known data from Customs and the Census division to utilize and connect to export data. A system like this, will allow Customs and the Census division to identify markets, customers, and enhanced sales capacities. They would also like to link their current Transportation Management System so that they can forecast peak seasons and commodity shifts. Phoenix International logo: We could ask questions like: How much can we expect tariffs to affect our business? Show analysis of how commodity specific exports from Missouri compare to nationally. Show analysis of how commodity specific imports to Missouri compare to nationally Show growth patterns of Mo. Agriculture exports to China post tariff compared to pre-tariff.

4 Understanding the Client's Vision

What regions are predicted to have pattern shift due to established peak seasons? How do growth patterns of exports to China post tariff compare to pre-tariff? What about other influences?

6 CRITICAL CONCERNS Concerns to addresses: Data relevance and date.
Data redundancy (data coming from multiple collection points) Report Reliability Dashboard ease of use Customizable dashboard Sources and Screenshots: FRED, ECONOMIC DATA St. Louis FEDERAL RESERVE BANK of St. Louis Missouri Department of Transportation

7 DATA SOURCES www.worldbank.org https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats
Client system will collect data from data sources that monitor and classify exports. Data on market demographics are collected by World Bank. All exporters are required to file an export declaration with Customs that they and Census use for commodity, market, country, and exporter. Gapminder collects data on commodity tariffs and ease entry.

8 SAMPLE DATA

9 SAMPLE DATA

10 SAMPLE DATA HTS Code determines product and unique. It is collected in all datasets to ensure against redundant product tupes.

11 Data Justification Data from the selected sources is comprised of information that is required to be submitted from every exporter in the country. The data is collected in the same method for every shipment and is easily classified. This keeps data formatted into the same groups and allows for less data cleansing. The main data sources are government depositories so the data is not collected or manipulated in any way to show preference or bias. ACE - Automated Commercial Environment
