1 Everyone writes… You are one of the leaders of a new country “America.” Think about how you fought so hard to be free of British rule and oppression. Think about what you hated living under the King…and use that knowledge to guide you. Along with a few others, you have been placed in charge of a very important job – create a new government for this country. Please answer the questions on the next slide in your notebook:

4 The Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were the 1st form of constitution (plan of government) for the USA. They were written at the same time the Declaration of Independence was written, but didn’t go into effect until 1781. It set up a system of government that divided power between the national government and the individual state governments.

5 Think – Pair - Share In your notebooks, please list anything you know about the Articles of Confederation – including powers of the government, strengths, and weaknesses? Now turn to the person next to you and tell them what you know. Be prepared to share with the class if asked.
