Aim The aim of this presentation is to brief the Joint Standing Committee on Defence (JSCD) about the requirements for their planned visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to visit members of the SANDF who are deployed there. 2018/11/11

Introduction The need to visit the RSA Forces deployed in United Nations (UN) Operations arises from time to time Those who need to visit the deployed RSA forces, as mentioned, for official purposes need to adhere to certain requirements before such a visit can be made 2018/11/11

UN AUTHORITY Approved letter of request Aim of the visit
Objectives, requirements and expectations Period of visit Date of envisaged visit Confirmation of availability of funds Means of travel to and from DRC 2018/11/11

UN AUTHORITY The following is required before a submission for authority to the UN can be made and needs to be made available to the C J Ops Liaison Officer at least 6 weeks prior to date of departure: Detailed name list of the delegation that includes ID/Force No Title/Rank Initials and Surname Gender Passport no, attach copies Expiry date Office and Cell No , 2018/11/11

FUNDING Unless otherwise instructed in writing the JSCD is responsible for the payment of the following: Domestic travel Flights to and form the DRC Accommodation Meals Allowances 2018/11/11

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS Valid Official/Diplomatic Passport
Yellow Fever Immunisation Certificate Valid Visa 2018/11/11

MEDICAL Yellow Fever is a World Health Organisation requirement
The DRC is a declared malaria area and the members are encouraged to go on malaria prophylaxis in accordance with the medication that is used. Each deployment site has a medical facility that will manage EMERGENCIES 2018/11/11

MEDICAL Ensure the following:
Chronic Medication Tabard. Sunblock Only drink potable water. Don’t drink from taps (budget for this) Wear appropriate clothing to protect from the sun and mosquitos. (cap/hat) NOTE: All medical expense is for the JSCD 2018/11/11

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS Prior to and up the port of exit – JSCD own arrangements In country (DRC) – J Ops Div Liaison Officer Upon return to RSA from port of entry – JSCD arrangements 2018/11/11

ACCOMMODATION C J Ops Liaison Officer will assist in making reservations for the delegation in the DRC Quotations in this regard will be made available to the JSCD for approval Individual members will be responsible for the settlement of own accounts Accommodation Beverages Food 2018/11/11
