Why this Degree? There is a strong demand for graduates with quantitative and computer programming skills in the financial services industry. “Quants” are the people who analyse risk, implement models and evaluate outcomes. This programme is aimed at providing graduates with the required financial, mathematical and computer programming skills to succeed and prosper in a fast-changing banking and financial sector. The expertise is present at Maynooth University.

Why this Degree? Learning Outcomes
Develop mathematical pricing models for financial assets and structured financial products. Critically research and analyse financial market trend Display and analyse data from the financial services sector. Collaborate with teams of financial, mathematical and computer systems experts to design and implement optimal financial strategies. Test models and analytical software products.

Main Features of the Degree
4-year degree Follows the flexibility structure of an Arts degree in first year After first year, three subjects are studied: Mathematical Studies, Computer Science, Economics/Finance Work Placement/Research Thesis Students can specialise in any of the three subjects in fourth year O1/H5 in Leaving Certificate Mathematics

Degree Structure In first year students take 15 credits of Economics/Finance, Computer Science and Mathematical Studies. For the remaining 15 credits they have a very wide choice such as Accounting, Business, more Computer Science, a language, Critical Skills. This provides many transfer routes in case the student wants to. In second and third year (semester 1) students study roughly the same “amount” of the 3 subjects.

Degree Structure Semester 2 of third year: Work Placement or Reseach Project. In fourth year students can specialize or stay broad in their knowledge. They take at least 10 credits of each subject and the rest of credits can be chosen from many options such as Topics on FinTech, Cryptography, Fixed Income Markets, International Finance, Statistical Machine Learning, Advanced Statistical Modeling, Advanced Financial Modeling, Artificial Intelligence…

Beyond MH402 Graduates will be ideally placed to pursue a career in investment banking, treasury management, corporate finance, financial engineering, fintech and wealth management. Alternatively, graduates may prefer to pursue further studies. Maynooth University offers a range of postgraduate courses which currently include: MSc in Economic and Financial Risk Analysis (academic partner of GARP) MSc in Finance (university affiliation programme CFA) MSc in Computer Science (Applied) MSc in Data Science and Analytics
