1 The Bible Do’s and Don’ts

2 Last Sunday, we considered 4 don’ts from the
Statement found in Gen. 19:12-26 where Lot’s wife Was told: Don’t look back.

3 LOT’S WIFE LOOKED BACK EVEN THOUGH
1. She received mercy from God who sent 2 angels to Lot to deliver him from the impending danger 2. Even though one of the angels held her hand and Brought her out of the city 3. Even though she was told in plain simple language to escape 4. Even though she was told clearly: Don’t look back! She did….and became a pillar of salt.

4 1. Don’t be a gossiper (talebearer) Lev. 19:16 ; Prov. 10:18
2. Don’t be a Demas (lover of this present world) 2 Tim.:10 I John 2:15-17) 3.Don’t be a person who sows discord among the brethren. (Prov. 6: l God wants brethren to dwell together in unity. (Psalm 133:1 ) 4.Don’t forsake the assemblies. (Heb.10:24-25)

5 Today, we want to consider some Do’s…
There is a woman in the New Testament that Did something extraordinary: Mark tells us About her Mark 14:3-9. Jesus commended this woman highly. “She hath done what she could..” That’s all that God requires of any of us. Just what you can do. God’s commandments are not griveous…hard. .

6 3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. 4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. 6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

7 7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. 8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. 9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

8 Also, consider the example of Abraham:
Getup and leave your father’s house. Gen.12:1ff Take Isaac thou Son, and offer him as a sacrifice. Gen.22:1ff Abraham had something to do..and he did it. Gen. 11:1ff Get up from thy house and go into a land that I will Shew you. Abraham DID exactly as God commanded. Abraham is known throughout the Bible as a man whom God knew! (Gen. 22: 11 “.for now I know that you fear God’ Gen. 18:19 ..he will command his children after him..” He did what God commanded him to do :

9 #1 Do unto others as you would that they should do unto you. Mtt. 7:12
“ 12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Do you want everyone to treat you like you Treat them?

10 Luke 6:31 - And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
Mark 12:31 - And the second [is] like, [namely] this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. 1 John 4:20 - If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

11 1 Peter 3:9 - Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. Hebrews 13:2 - Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

12 #2 Be Kind. Eph. 4:32 Joseph did not repay his brothers by taking
Ephesians 4:32 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Consider the example of Joseph: Joseph did not repay his brothers by taking Vengeance on them. He took care of them and Sheltered their families and stock..Gen.50:21 21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

13 “It is a good thing to show your family how kind you can be.”
Husbands to wives Wives to Husbands Parents to children Children to Parents

14 1 Peter 4:9 - Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
Romans 12: [Let] love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

15 #3 Greet (salute) one another. Rom. 16:16
Romans 16:16 16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you In his letters , Paul would ‘send greetings to all the brethren’ Example: Corinthian church: I Cor. 1:3 “Grace to you and Peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Warned them: I Cor. 11:18b “since you come together not For the better but for the worse.”

16 Greet brethren.. Show love and concern for each one.
Rom. 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and Weep with those who weep.”

17 #4 Be Blameless. When you have sinned, admit it and correct it.
God wants children of His to be blameless!.

18 Colossians 3:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

19 Matt. 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me I Cor. 1:8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ Phil. 2:5 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

20 Be Ye Doers of the Word, and not Hearers only.
James 1:22 O’Neal…that’s us. Each one needs to Be a ‘doer of the word”

21  Titus 3: 1. Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work

22 This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

23 Work For the night is coming when Nobody works!
John 9:4 Work for Jesus, O my brother, His disciple ever be! Acts 11:26; Acts 26:28 ; I Pet.4:16 I want to be a worker for the Lord! “Lord, send me!” Isa.6:8

24 John 9:4 “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.”

25 Who will follow Jesus?

26 Here am I, Lord send me! Words
of the hymn.. Keith Green Isa. 6:8 “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

27 Can Jesus use you? Is your life right with God?

28 For those who are not in Jesus:
Hear the Word of God.. Rom. 10:17 Believe what you hear…That Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. John 8:24 Repent. Make a change..Decide to come to Jesus. Lk. 13:3 Confess that JESUS is the Christ, the Son of God. Matt. 10:32-33 Be baptized, be immersed! I Pet. 3:21; Live faithfully. Rev. 2:10

James 5:19,20 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. James 5:16 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
