5 Research and Development Teams
Mathematics Established 2011 Background history English Established 2017 Math - Started in August, 2011 the group meets approximately 3 – 4 times a semester. Collaboration of academic and college preparatory math faculty with support from Institutional Research, Educational Planning and Administration. In each meeting, data information is disseminated and discussed; new ideas and research on quality and effectiveness of instructions is presented; and updates are given on semester projects. 11/11/201811/11/2018

6 Charters and Purpose Provide leadership in addressing the issues of student performance, curriculum development, and faculty professional development. Increase student success and recommend curriculum changes. Develop consistent delivery of courses across campuses. Research best practices and pilot innovative initiatives. 7 Completed Projects for Math
Developed several new math pathways for students instead of the traditional College Algebra. AIM: Acceleration in Mathematics ASAP: Accelerated Statistics & Probability ACM: Accelerated Contemporary Mathematics ABS: Accelerated Business (Finite) Math 11/11/201811/11/2018

Developed manuals with detailed lessons, specific examples, quizzes, and test to help part-time faculty offer quality courses. Created marketing materials and met with educational advisors and high-school counselors to help with placing students in correct courses. Analyze and collect data on student performance. 11/11/201811/11/2018

10 Completed Projects for Math (cont.)
Review Program Outcomes and Faculty Credentialing. Reviewed the transferability of upper level math classes with area universities. Worked alongside technical faculty to develop a math course that better meets the needs of technical students. 11/11/201811/11/2018

Redesigned English 1301 and 1302 to align with SLO’s and Pathways. Developed a Blackboard site for a course framework and instructional materials. Analyze and collect data on student performance. 11/11/201811/11/2018

Redesigned the co-requisite for Composition I and Integrated Reading and Writing. Created professional development for delivery of the new co-requisite to meet state mandates. 13 Why would anyone want to do all this work?
Friday afternoons, provide lunch, faculty have ownership and a voice in what is being done, student success and retention is increasing, adminstrators aren’t dictating what needs to be done, and the creators are the implementors 11/11/201811/11/2018

Listen and trust your faculty. They are the experts in the classroom. They are at a perfect position to make the biggest impact Revise, revise, revise 11/11/201811/11/2018

15 Where do we go from here? The Math R & D Team will continue exploring new ways and opportunities for student success by looking at data, reviewing research, and making improvements in our current courses. The English R & D will be piloting the new Composition I and II courses, will continue to design the co-requisites, and create notebooks to assist part-time faculty instruction. 11/11/201811/11/2018
