Blood contains many substances:
Blood Brainteaser Blood contains many substances: Name two of them.
3
Water Plasma Red cells White cells Platelets Nutrients
(glucose, proteins, lipids)
4
Blood Brainteaser Where are blood cells made?
5
Inside the marrow of your bones.
6
Blood Brainteaser Blood has 4 major jobs to keep you healthy:
Name two of them.
7
Carry Oxygen to the body’s cells
Distribute nutrients (food) to the body’s cells so they can create energy. Remove carbon dioxide and other chemical waste products from the body’s cells. Transport special cells and proteins which defend against infection and injuries.
8
Blood Brainteaser Which cells carry oxygen to the body’s cells?
10
Which cells remove Carbon Dioxide from the body’s cells?
11
They remove carbon dioxide from the body’s cells.
12
Blood Brainteaser What causes blood to circulate in the body?
13
The Heart! It pumps blood to all our body cells, supplying them with oxygen and food.
14
Where does the blood get the oxygen it carries
15
Lungs Red blood cells get the oxygen from the air in the lungs and carry it to tissues in every part of the body.
16
What is the study of Blood called
17
Hematology!
18
What gives blood its red color
19
Hemoglobin: a protein, gives blood its red color.
20
What do white cells do
21
White cells fight germs and bacteria. They protect you against disease.
22
What is the cellular matter in blood that helps stop bleeding and forms blood clots?
23
Platelets: when a blood vessel is cut, platelets stick to the edges of the cut and to one another, forming a plug that slows bleeding. They then release chemicals that react with clotting proteins, leading to the formation of a blood clot.
24
Which cell type, red or white, is most numerous in your blood?
25
Red blood Cells!!
26
Blood cells are transported through your body in a straw-colored liquid called_________________?
Plasma: It is the liquid part of your blood in which red cells, white cells and platelets float.
27
What is plasma mostly made up of?
28
Water! Plasma carries nutrients and other chemicals, like proteins, that are necessary for life. Some of the proteins are clotting proteins.
29
How many pints of blood does the average adult have?
30
10-12 pints! Wow that is a lot of blood.
31
What is so wonderful about blood?
32
Keeps our bodies healthy. Helps save lives.
A gift that you and I can give to people who need it. It is easy to give the gift of life! One donation can help several people.
