2 Who Should Apply? Any junior or senior* student with a GPA of 3.6* or higher is eligible to apply to the chapter of National Honor Society in their school of enrollment. Sophomores can apply in the spring and will start their junior year as an already inducted member *Per PWCS regulation

3 What is the NHS? The National Honor Society is a club in which inducted members demonstrate… Scholarship Minimum 3.6* GPA Service This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation. Leadership Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others. Character The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

4 Where is NHS? Most high schools across the country sponsor a National Honor Society, once inducted as a member you take it with you wherever you go and do not need to reapply.

5 It looks good on college applications!
Why? College admission and financial aid planning options, including webinars, virtual events, and an NHS-customized scholarship search tool Service projects, both by the chapter and individual, allow you to build teamwork capabilities, hone project management aptitude, and make friends—all valuable life skills Help with financing college education through the prestigious NHS Scholarship program, which—since its establishment in 1946—has awarded more than 16,000 scholarships totaling more than $13 million to seniors who best reflect the values of NHS Leadership development, motivation, and inspiration gained through your own chapter’s work as well as three LEAD Conferences and NHS State Summits held in select locations annually** It looks good on college applications! *nhs.us

6 Obligations of being an NHS member***
Service hours (8 per semester) Tutoring hours (2 per semester) Annual Dues ($20) Attend monthly meetings (mandatory) Maintain GPA 3.6 or higher Demonstrate high academic honesty and reliability ***Obligations subject to change each school year

How to Apply Go to nhs.colganhs.com On the left panel select “Application Information” Click the link to the Application Use blue/black in or type in the pdf (Typing is preferred!) Submit applications no later than April 17th 2:15pm Get 3 teacher recommendations (electronically) LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

8 Tips for filling out the Application
DO NOT leave any section blank. Applications that are partially completed will not be considered. You need 3 teacher recommendations, the google form link will be sent to all teachers. Ask your teachers as soon as possible! (Make them aware of the deadline) Turn it in early! Late Applications will not be accepted! Do not be modest! The Faculty council is looking for outstanding students that clearly demonstrate that they belong in the National Honor Society.
