3. Opportunity
To influence and accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing, and in so doing, empower the warfighter through research, development, acquisition, production, and sustainment of DoD products and systems.

4. History
The first Manufacturing Innovation Institute, America Makes, was founded to focus on strengthening the industrial base in additive manufacturing. (2012)
In 2015, Representatives from each of the Services and DLA worked with America Makes to develop Service-specific AM roadmaps
The Final Report of the AM Roadmap was published in November 2016, and features a consolidated DoD AM Roadmap with 80% overlap in needs.
