1 Michigan Basin digital cross sections and well log correlation
J. Wood, A. Guth – Michigan Technological University Graphic logs, correlations and las files across the Michigan Basin The figure on the right is a log typical of the 120 wells that were used to characterize the Michigan Basin in this study. We updated and expanded the Lilienthal (1978) report which was published over 30 years ago and is still widely used. Here, we improved the wells used by Lilienthal either by digitizing the logs or by replacing them with more recent logs. These logs were used to create graphic logs (left) as well as digital cross sections (below). Figure 1: Graphic log for the Kielpinski Well, Permit # Similar logs have been constructed for the other ~120 wells that compose the cross section lines across the Michigan Basin. The left edge is clipped to the GR values and the right edge represents RHOB values. Figure 2: Correlated cross section A-A’. The well on the left anchors all the cross section “spokes” and is the Sparks (Permit # 29739) well, which is the deepest well, and located near the center of Michigan.
