Keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead to increase your field of vision and give you enough time to react.

Scan the road and your rearview mirrors frequently for hazards.
Be ready to react, by avoiding distracting activities and by putting your foot on the brake pedal when approaching a hazardous area.
