1 PRESENTATION AT IYMC HELD AT JOHANNESBURG 29-31 JAN 2015
EXAMPLES OF INCLUSIVE MINISTRY AT MT HOREB

2 The Church and Renewal “The Church is God’s new covenant people through whom He fulfils his plan with the world, his first creation.....What happens to and in the church, is important to God. God renews, restores and changes his creation as he leads them to the end.... And on his way he renews the congregation and also renews by means of the congregation. He changes things in and through the congregation in such a way that the church eventually progresses to become an image of the Kingdom. ”(Malan Nel 1994: , Title of the Book – Who are we?)

3 Questions to ponder on Does the church still resembles the image of God, when: It recognises the youth as the future leaders and future church? It can’t respond to the basic needs of the youth- to be wanted, to be needed, and to be seen as responsible members of the Christian Community? It doesn’t regard the youth as its integral part? It doesn’t involve the youth in its own variety of activities? It has left the youth alone without guidance.

4 Believe The youth: To be loved; To be accepted; To belong; To be listened to; To be taken seriously; To have an impact; Support; Practice making decisions; Practice taking responsibility; Leadership skills; Respect, and to know God loves them; to respond to God in love and service.

5 YOUTH MINISTRY AT MT HOREB
Urban Ministry Consists of Youth – from the congregation, community and schools. Inclusive ministry, mean:“Youth ministry is not created by adults who tell youth how it’s going to be. Young people and adults create it together. The key is to include the young people in the early stages of dreaming how it’s going to be” (Holderness & Hay 1997: xiv) Everyone is welcomed – gender, race etc. Others have affiliated to traditional YF and others not. Part of the life and work of the church. Services Fridays, 18h00 – 20h00 Sunday, 09h00 “Teen Class” (But first start in church) Age (14 – 22) around 25 in number. Migration of the students to the big cities

9 Consequences By excluding them especially in the church we run the risk of helping them to settle for lesser gods elsewhere as Dean & Forster (1998: 9) clearly indicates.

10 Conclusion In Romans 8: 37 Paul writes No, in all these things we are more than the conquerors. This is not the end. Today’s test will bring tomorrow’s promotions.
