1 AFNeT Standardization Days 2018
Standardization and industrialization of the Digital Twin in Rail Infrastructure Alain Jeanmaire - SNCF Réseau May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹1›

2 Powered by COMPETITORS Powered by IMs and Manufacturers
Railway business is facing a challenge - In terms of competition with other means of transportation… Powered by CUSTOMERS Powered by COMPETITORS Powered by IMs and Manufacturers Shuttle-to-Train transfer Hyperloop Hydrogen Hydrail - With its global efficiency, first of all in the domain of network infrastructure A major key success factor to this challenge will come from our capacity to master the digital railway system, and force usage of digital standards. May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹2› UIC Digital Platform - Beijing - June 19th, 201

3 The Digital Twin requires standards for digital continuity
Network Infrastructure A major improvement to efficiency, in both projects and maintenance activities, will come from our capacity to organize collaboration between contributors, and their solutions. Heterogeneous solutions, multiple partners… on a shared project Design Construction Track Catenary Signaling Economist Client Civil Eng. GIS Geologist Operator Maintainer Project Mngr Project handover Maintenance Digital Twin Project Requirements Operation The Digital Twin requires standards for digital continuity May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹3› Afnet Standardization Days /05/2018 Standardization in Railways

4 Railway System is complex and involves numerous technologies
Digitalisation of Network Infrastructure will requires miscellaneous digital standards - some coming from other industries, - some specific… to be designed. Railway industry benefits from the experience of more advanced industries, and will work to the alignment of its specific digital standards May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹4›

5 Standardization in Railways
3 major projects leaded by European Infrastructure Managers (IMs) are currently addressing standardization for Digital Continuity Within bSI, China BIM Alliance signed an agreement with 6 European IMs to design the future digital model for design and construction in railway IFC Rail The RailTopoModel project, leaded by UIC (Union Internationale des Chemins de fer), involve 12 IMs to design the digital model for railway operation EULYNX Consortium brings together 12 IMs in the design of digital standardization for railway signaling IMs involved in multiple projects are working to the alignment of the 3 standards May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹5› Afnet Standardization Days /05/2018 Standardization in Railways

6 Standardization in Railways
Those 3 projects for digital standardization will globally cover most of the Railway Infrastructure life cycle… On January 2018, they decided to work for their alignment, … based on OGC standard for geography and geometry (linear territorial assets) One example of business case showing the need for integration of standards Project : increase by 20% the density of traffic between 2 cities Scenario of topology, routes and traffic are simulated using RTM, and finely designed using Eulynx Design and construction phases require both IFC Rail and Eulynx Operation involve both RTM (traffic management) and Eulynx (Control Command) Maintenance require all of them (functional properties, 3D, technical compatibility,…) May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹6› Afnet Standardization Days /05/2018 Standardization in Railways

7 The baseline for the alignment of those 3 projects will be a
Common Rail Data Dictionary, to be applied by each standard model IM1 IM2 IMn IM… INESS ETCS Other Standards Ensure continuity for business processes Software based on RTM Decline same objects in multiple UMLs Software based on IFC Rail Software based on Eulynx Business Inputs Define Standard Semantic (PBS, Objects, properties) Run continuous operation Common Rail Data Dictionary Design standard Models One major next step will be to get software vendors to apply consitently those models… May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹7›

8 Digital Standardization
The French sector is getting organized to 1) contribute to international projects for Digital Standardization 2) Implement them in a BIM operational platform for sectorial collaboration French Railway Sector Governance Design, Build BIM Platform Digital Standardization CONSORTIUM BIM projects Will operate … May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹8›

9 Tunnels, Bridges, Roads, Buildings Common Rail Data Dictionary

10 Railway modeling : Instruction, capitalization, dissemination
Main actors of the French railway sector are investing to structure an academic support for long term capitalization and business support on digital: Monitoring of standards for Railway, Rail Data dictionary, Railway System Model, Product Catalogs, Solutions,… 2018 2020 2019 2021 3 Phases Foundation Extension Development & Capitalization Organization Each Business Project involving modeling tasks should contribute and finance An academic and research institution to capitalize knowledge and support industry on long term Resources Dictionary & Model (xx FTE) Project design & development Monitoring of standards,… (xx FTE) Documentation & support (xx FTE) May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹10›

13 Digital Twin - next steps
Simulation and Optimization, from Design to Operation Going from early design to operation is a long process, involving numerous actors, internal and external. BIM and Digital Twin will develop digital continuity on the infrastructure description: shared information/data Simulation will become unavoidable to secure and validate each component and the whole operational system at each step Capacity Planning Traffic Mngt CK Operational System Functional Description Network Design Construction Digital Twin BIM Design and Implement Rail System Run Operation Business Requirements Simulate global behavior for project validation Seamless simulation and optimization of Operation Test and validate each sub system, and their integration « Simulate as it will operate » Design, Simulate, Test, … to validate the system, and boost confidence Railway Complex System Model May 17 & 18, (Paris) – ‹13›
