1 From everyday guy to leader of Germany
Rise of Hitler From everyday guy to leader of Germany

2 Who was Hitler? Born in Austria, 1889 Was orphaned
Grew up across from a monastery and wanted to be a priest Smart, artistic (painting), well loved He joined the army in WWI and was a dispatch runner. (twice decorated for bravery) Rose to power in the 1920’s (Nazi Party)

3 Hitler’s Ideas “Pan-Germanism”- all non Germans should be excluded from the empire and the “pure” Austria and Germany should unite in a new reich. Anti-Semitism – strong anti-Jewish sentiments among the lower-classes. Hitler agreed and believed – in his ideal world there would be a unified German state, free of “impure” races.

4 Why did he hate Jewish People?
They looked like all other Germans They stuck to their old traditions and religion Some Jewish people were rich and successful, but many were poor Hitler blamed them for all his problems all Germanys problems Germany loosing the war (communists helped too) Convincing people to stop fighting

5 How did Hitler win people over?
Hitler started his campaign in beer halls His message was full of hate for The Versailles Treaty The Republic Communists Jewish people

6 Were Hitler's ideas true?
No But the Germans were mad at the Versailles Treaty They needed someone to blame for their troubles The Jewish people and Communists just filled that space

7 Growth of the Nazi Party
Who joined Hitler's party? Out of work ex- soldiers People with small businesses( lost a lot of $ in the war and thought the Nazi’s would stop them from loosing more) The party grew quickly in the 1920’s

8 Storm troopers Hitler’s private army of soldiers Mostly “Thugs”
Wore brown shirts Called the SA. Roamed the streets beating up socialists, communists, and people who supported other parties

9 What happened that lead to war?
1923- German Gov’t defaulted on payments to the allies for the treaty. France sent an army into Germanys richest industrial area The French took over mines and took coal to make up for the payments The workers in the mines went on strike The German government backed them by paying their wages even though they didn’t work

10 Inflation in Germany To pay the workers the Gov’t had to print $
This was a mistake, printing more $ wrecks the economy. Money looses value Economy goes into inflation Money becomes worthless( money stops being important, its about as valuable as a rock) It got so bad the Gov’t gave food vouchers instead of money.

11 Hitler takes over - Take 1
1923- Hitler tries to take over the Gov’t His head general was Ludendorff They marched to the Gov’t place with about people The police knew they were coming and were waiting for them. Shots were exchanged and the Nazi’s ran away.

12 Result to Hitler's failed take over
Hitler was tried and sent to jail for 11 months(he had friends in high places) People heard about his attempt on the Gov’t and wanted to join him Wrote the book “MIEN KAMPT” It meant “ My struggles” Became the “Nazi Bible”

13 Bad news for Hitler Why was this bad for Hitler?????????
Germany got a new Prime Minister He was great, he Got back to the installment payments Made a new kind of money Prices dropped Peoples wages were worth something again There was more work and more food Why was this bad for Hitler?????????

14 Happy people don’t want change
I hate happy people I need angry people to take over the world People were happier Happy people don’t want change Happy people don’t help overthrow governments Hitler was mad at all the happy people so he changed his strategy. He decided to get his Nazi party elected into government legally

15 How will I convince people to vote for me……………….
1. I need money- gotta find some rich business men and convince them to support me. Ahhhh I will promise to free them from the dreaded communists!!!! 2. Start up my own news papers, that way they will only say good stuff about me

16 Change in Germany 1929 The Prime Minister died
Trade all over the world fell People lost jobs ( not happy, Hitler need unhappy people) The Great Depression hits and is felt all around the world. By over 6 million Germans had no work, no money and were not really happy with the way things were going

17 Success, finally something is going my way!!!
So many unhappy Germans, so many people to join me! Even though some people became communist many people would join Hitler,

18 Election results 1930-1932- Nazi seats went from 12 to 230
They had more seats then any other party The Communists votes were also rising……..only one way to fix that problem

19 And the people believed him, the President believed him
They made him Chancellor of Germany in 1933 People of Germany, and the world, The only way to prevent the EVIL communists from taking over everything is to vote for me, Hitler!!!! The Nazi party will save this country
