You will notice that not every college in the state costs the same price. QUESTION: How much does it cost to go to ________________? (Pick any college or university that you would like to highlight.) Point out a couple of schools, mentioning differences between in-state colleges vs. universities vs. private. In-State Colleges: Typically offer 2-year associate degrees. Students must transfer to a university to receive a bachelor’s degree. Generally less expensive than universities. In-State Universities: Offer bachelor’s degrees, Master’s degrees, and often Doctorate degrees. Generally more expensive than colleges. Public vs. Private: Public colleges and universities are owned by the government and receive tax dollars to help subsidize the cost of tuition for students. Private colleges and universities are owned by non-government entities and do not receive tax dollars to subsidize tuition. Students will typically pay the full cost of their education.
