2 Green Energy Customers voluntarily pay for LG&E/KU to buy Green Tags to promote renewable resource development. Residential or small business customers: Minimum of $5 per month Purchases must be in increments of $5 $5 contributes to 300 kilowatt hours Large commercial or industrial customers: Minimum of $13 per month Purchases must be in increments of $13 $13 contributes to 1,000 kilowatt hours Green Energy is a little bit different than the other programs we’ve mentioned so far. It is not actually a part of the DSM-funded programs which are paid for through the charge we discussed earlier. Green Energy is a voluntary program. It allows customers to support renewable energy sources in and around Kentucky by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates – or RECs. These RECs help fund the growth of renewable energy sources.
