UNC Graduate & Professional Student
Federation Welcome to UNC! Below is a short presentation about GPSF, what we do, and why this might be useful to you.

What do we do? Connect Advocate GPSF Collaborate
with graduate and professional students both socially and intellectually across disciplines. Advocate policies for improved campus and community resources GPSF In general, our mission is to advocate for the needs of the graduate and professional students at UNC. We have the means of doing so through funding efforts, administrative relationships, and connectivity throughout the entire Graduate school. We are here for you! For more information about specific initiatives, visit the GPSF website minutes at Collaborate to create policies that respond to the particular needs and interests of all graduate and professional students.
3
Money & Membership Funding: GPSF’s activities are funded by the Student Government Activities Fee assessed to ALL students; we receive 25% of the fee revenues Membership: All fee paying graduate & professional students are members! Thus, YOU are able to participate in all GPSF events Holding a position: The President and members of Student Congress are elected; all other positions appointed pending application Every graduate and professional student at UNC can participate in GPSF activities. Everything that our organization does is funded by those $970 of student fees that you pay each semester. Since you’re already paying for it, you might as well come see what you’re paying for!

External Appointments
How do we work? Legislative Executive Judicial Congress Senate Executive Board Honor Court GPSF is broken down into three main groups: Executive: Executive Board and GPSF Cabinet Advocates on behalf of the interests of the graduate and professional student body Legislative: GPSF Senate: members from all graduate and professional programs at UNC Allocates student fees Creates legislation that reflects the interests of the community Judicial: Graduate Honor Court Academic violations (i.e. plagiarism, cheating) Conduct violations (e.g. drug possession, DUI). The senate needs someone from every department – you can look up your department’s senators on our website ( If your senator shows up to all the meetings, your department gets money at the end of the year (money is allocated based on department size). Departments can use this money for anything. You can find your senator at Cabinet External Appointments

There’s money for about people every application cycle, and there’s usually about 30 applications per cycle. Application cycles are quarterly. Senate Appropriations – Departments can ask senate for money for events (ex: bringing in a guest speaker or hosting a social event). Need to justify your budget well and you’ll usually get approved.
