2 Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
The Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965 set national goals for: Protecting human and environmental health from the hazardous of waste disposal Conserving energy resources Reducing the waste generated The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act was enacted by the EPA to amend the above act It’s the U.S.’s main law for governing and setting standards for the disposal of solid and hazardous waste. It was passed on October 21, 1976 to face our increasing amount of municipal and industrial waste.

3 Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
Amended in it was expanded to include the enactment of Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments. These strengthened the law by covering small generators of hazardous waste and establishing requirements for hazardous waste incinerators and the closing of substandard landfills. Amended in established a trust to pay for the cleanup of leaking UST sites where responsible parties cannot be identified Introduced in the Senate on July 21, 1975 Passed by the Senate on June 30, 1976 Passed by the House on September 27, 1976 (with amendment) Senate agreed to House amendment on September 30, 1976 Signed into law by President Gerald Ford on October 21, 1976
