Which ending do I use? What case is the noun? Subject – Nominative
Who or what is doing this? Direct Object – Accusative Who or what is being “verbed”? Indirect Object – Dative To whom or for whom is this being done? Possessive – Genitive Is this object showing possession? Is there a der-word, ein-word or article before the adjective? Yeah? Follow the chart for each one. Nope? Add the der-word endings to the adjectives (on the chart). Believe in the chart and it’ll believe in you. OR if there is a preposition that makes it change to this specific case regardless of objects.

Examples – Nominative Masculine
Article The good dog. Der gute Hund. Der-Word This good dog. Dieser gute Hund. Ein-Word A good dog. Ein guter Hund. Adjective Only Good dog. Guter Hund. This is an example of the 4 ways an adjective ending can change just in the nominative masculine case. Pay attention to the consistent pattern of “er” in this case.
