34 My soul finds rest in God alone, my rock and my salvation
Psalm 62 My soul finds rest in God alone, my rock and my salvation A fortress strong against my foes and I will not be shaken

35 And lies like arrows pierce me I’ll fix my heart on righteousness,
Though lips may bless and hearts may curse And lies like arrows pierce me I’ll fix my heart on righteousness, I’ll look to Him who hears me

36 O praise Him, Hallelujah, my Delight and my Reward
Everlasting, never failing, my Redeemer, my God

37 Find rest, my soul, in God alone amid the world’s temptations
When evil seeks to take a hold I’ll cling to my salvation

38 Though riches come and riches go, don’t set your heart upon them
The fields of hope in which I sow are harvested in heaven

39 O praise Him, Hallelujah, my Delight and my Reward
Everlasting, never failing, my Redeemer, my God

40 I’ll set my gaze on God alone and trust in Him completely
With every day pour out my soul and He will prove His mercy

41 Though life is but a fleeting breath, a sigh too brief to measure
My King has crushed the curse of death and I am His forever

42 O praise Him, Hallelujah, my Delight and my Reward
Everlasting, never failing, my Redeemer, my God

43 O praise Him, Hallelujah, my Delight and my Reward
Everlasting, never failing, my Redeemer, my God

44 O praise Him, O praise Him, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Bridge O praise Him, O praise Him, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

45 O praise Him, Hallelujah, my Delight and my Reward
Everlasting, never failing, my Redeemer, my God

46 O praise Him, Hallelujah, my Delight and my Reward
Everlasting, never failing, my Redeemer, my God

48 Jesus and the Ten Commandments Magnifying the Meaning
Matthew 5:17-26

49 Jesus is the fulfiller and magnifier of the Ten Commandments
The Big Truth Jesus is the fulfiller and magnifier of the Ten Commandments (and all of the Old Testament).

50 “Abolish” – A very strong word – referring to demolishing a temple
“Fulfill” – Does not mean to bring to an end but to bring to its intended meaning

51 The root cause of sinful anger is loving ourselves way to much!
From the text . . . 1. Be on guard against murdering with your mouth – 5:21-22 The root cause of sinful anger is loving ourselves way to much!

52 Sinful anger is ultimately an expression of my dissatisfaction of how God is handling my life.
“If God is sovereign over all things – then every inconvenience in my life has been ordained/allowed by God for my spiritual growth.” - Jerry Bridges

53 Refraining from homicide does not impress God.
There is a higher court for what we consider “lesser” sins.

54 “Fool” from the Greek noun moros – from which we get “moron”
“Raca” means “good for nothing” - “you brainless blockhead,” - “you empty–headed fool” - “you idiot” - “you imbecile” “Fool” from the Greek noun moros – from which we get “moron”

55 Character assassination is just another type of murder.
“Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret” - Ambrose Bierce

56 2. Reconciliation is important enough to interrupt your worship – 5:23-24
Right relationships with people must be in place before any true worship can take place. There is no place within the body of Christ for unresolved conflicts in our relationships.

57 Jesus says that some believers should NOT attend church until they have pursued reconciliation.
“A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.” - Proverbs 19:11

58 3. Working toward reconciliation should happen quickly – 5:25-26

59 “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.”
- Romans 12:18

60 Points to ponder . . . 1. Get a grip on anger – own it and overcome it by God’s grace.

61 “Think twice before you speak once.”
“But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.” - James 1:19 “Think twice before you speak once.”

62 “Stick and stones can break our bones, but words can never hurt us.”
2. The ripple effects of your anger can last for years. “Stick and stones can break our bones, but words can never hurt us.”

63 3. Let God be God. “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God . . .” - Romans 12:19

64 4. An unwillingness to reconcile may mean that you are not saved.
5. Jesus died for your anger.
