Standard Measurements
Mass= gram (g) Volume= liters (L) Distance= meters (m) Time= seconds (s) Temperature= Celsius (C) Kelvin (K) conversion: 1 C + 273= 274 K
6
Making Conversions Ex. 1 m = 100 cm 1m = 1000 mm
Conversion Factors are set up as fractions If the unit to be eliminated is in the numerator (top), then the unit must be placed in the denominator (bottom) of the conversion factor and vise versa
7
Making conversions (cont.)
What is given A Fraction equal to one Convert 1000 grams to pounds = 2.2 pounds Get in the habit of putting a line through the units as they “divide out” the only units not crossed out should be the ones you are trying to end up with 1000 g 1 pound 454 g
