Creating Digital Images A local photographic company called Progress Media is holding a competition for students, to promote the local area. The competition is called ‘The Camera Never Lies (or Does It?)’. Entrants will need to source a range of images; these can be captured: • using a digital camera • using a scanner • by sourcing them from the internet • by sourcing them from other digital sources. Entrants will need to manipulate image(s) to produce a final product for submission. Progress Media will use the competition entries in a display so that the judges can select the winning entry. The winner will be judged on the creativity and quality of the final product which must be presented in a format which is suitable for A4 printing. In order to create your final product, you will need to: Specify a solution for the competition Create your competition entry Store and present your digital entry

LO1: Be able to specify a digital image solution for a client’s needs You need to complete the following tasks in order to effectively create the digital image for ‘Progress Media’. Assignment Tasks (P, M, D) 1 Read over the assignment brief provided by ‘Progress Media’. You have been asked to create a Digital Image and will need to: Specify a solution for the competition Create your competition entry Store and present your digital entry In Learning Outcome 1, you need to create a specification that: Has a logical and coherent structure Contains few, if any errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar Use technical terminology accurately and appropriately Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the subject matter Target Audience Appropriate Software Clear Evidence Appropriate Choices

LO1: Be able to specify a digital image solution for a client’s needs You need to complete the following tasks in order to effectively create the digital image for ‘Progress Media’. Task 1 (P, M, D) Produce a specific solution for the competition. 1 Produce a specification based on user requirements for the digital image. This should include: Purpose (What do Progress Media want) Audience (Who is it for) Software Used Collection Methods, i.e. Scanned, Digital Camera, Internet, Newspaper Merit and Distinction 2 Consider how Legislation affects the images you will be collecting. i.e. Scanned, Digital Camera, Internet, Newspaper Distinction 3 Consider the requirements for the final product, i.e. File Type, Creativity, Quality, Format for Printing A4 Basic Specification and Understanding shown Sound Specification and Understanding shown (M/D) Legislation (M/D) Comprehensive Specification and Understanding (D) Final Product (D)

Task 3 (P, M, D) Use a range of research methods to inform ideas. 1 Research a range images that you would consider suitable as a product. For image each, comment on: Purpose and Audience Message conveyed and suitability Suitability to your final design Ideas for the final product Merit and Distinction 2 Use an image diagram(s) to inform ideas for your final product. This should be a sketch using text boxes to represent images to be collected. Distinction 3 Use a questionnaire to inform ideas for your final product. This should be in line with your success criteria and helps you decide on the final design. Task 4 (P, M, D) Use a range of research methods to inform ideas. 1 Create your final sketch diagrams for the digital image solution. Annotate the sketch diagrams to show the key areas, including: Page size and Orientation Text Font Type/Size/Colour Effects i.e. Magic Wand, Eraser, Transparency, Shapes, etc. Merit and Distinction 2 Analyse the suitability of your final diagram, commenting on: Purpose and Audience Ideas from the Research and Questionnaires How you met your Success Criteria Distinction 3 Justify the complexity, originality and creativity of your final product.
